Now it came about after this died Nahash the king of the sons of Ammon reigned his son in his place

1 וַ/יְהִי֙ 𐤅/𐤉𐤄𐤉 vayehi Now it came about HC/Vqw3ms אַחֲרֵי 𐤀𐤇𐤓𐤉 acharey after HR כֵ֔ן 𐤊𐤍 khen this HD וַ/יָּ֕מָת 𐤅/𐤉𐤌𐤕 vayamat died HC/Vqw3ms נָחָ֖שׁ 𐤍𐤇𐤔 nachash Nahash HNp מֶ֣לֶךְ 𐤌𐤋𐤊 melekhe the king HNcmsc בְּנֵי 𐤁𐤍𐤉 beney Bene (Bemba) of the sons HNcmpc עַמּ֑וֹן 𐤏𐤌𐤅𐤍 amon of Ammon HNp וַ/יִּמְלֹ֥ךְ 𐤅/𐤉𐤌𐤋𐤊 vayimelokhe reigned HC/Vqw3ms בְּנ֖/וֹ 𐤁𐤍/𐤅 beno Bene (Bemba) his son HNcmsc/Sp3ms תַּחְתָּֽי/ו 𐤕𐤇𐤕𐤉/𐤅 tachetayv in his place HR/Sp3ms

And said David I will do kindness with Hanun son of Nahash because had done his father to me kindness And sent David messengers to comfort him concerning his father And came servants of David to land sons of Ammon to Hanun to comfort him

2 וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר 𐤅/𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 vayomer And said HC/Vqw3ms דָּוִ֜יד 𐤃𐤅𐤉𐤃 david David HNp אֶֽעֱשֶׂה 𐤀𐤏𐤔𐤄 eeseh I will do HVqi1cs חֶ֣סֶד 𐤇𐤎𐤃 chesed kindness HNcmsa עִם 𐤏𐤌 im with HR חָנ֣וּן 𐤇𐤍𐤅𐤍 chanun Hanun HNp בֶּן 𐤁𐤍 ben Bene (Bemba) son HNcmsc נָחָ֗שׁ 𐤍𐤇𐤔 nachash of Nahash HNp כִּֽי 𐤊𐤉 ki because HC עָשָׂ֨ה 𐤏𐤔𐤄 asah had done HVqp3ms אָבִ֤י/ו 𐤀𐤁𐤉/𐤅 aviv his father HNcmsc/Sp3ms עִמִּ/י֙ 𐤏𐤌/𐤉 imi to me HR/Sp1cs חֶ֔סֶד 𐤇𐤎𐤃 chesed-2 kindness HNcmsa וַ/יִּשְׁלַ֥ח 𐤅/𐤉𐤔𐤋𐤇 vayishelach And sent HC/Vqw3ms דָּוִ֛יד 𐤃𐤅𐤉𐤃 david-2 David HNp מַלְאָכִ֖ים 𐤌𐤋𐤀𐤊𐤉𐤌 maleakhim messengers HNcmpa לְ/נַחֲמ֣/וֹ 𐤋/𐤍𐤇𐤌/𐤅 lenachamo to comfort him HR/Vpc/Sp3ms עַל 𐤏𐤋 al concerning HR אָבִ֑י/ו 𐤀𐤁𐤉/𐤅 aviv-2 his father HNcmsc/Sp3ms וַ/יָּבֹאוּ֩ 𐤅/𐤉𐤁𐤀𐤅 vayavou And came HC/Vqw3mp עַבְדֵ֨י 𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤉 avedey servants HNcmpc דָוִ֜יד 𐤃𐤅𐤉𐤃 david-3 of David HNp אֶל 𐤀𐤋 el to HR אֶ֧רֶץ 𐤀𐤓𐤑 erets land HNcbsc בְּנֵי 𐤁𐤍𐤉 beney Bene (Bemba) sons HNcmpc עַמּ֛וֹן 𐤏𐤌𐤅𐤍 amon of Ammon HNp אֶל 𐤀𐤋 el-2 to HR חָנ֖וּן 𐤇𐤍𐤅𐤍 chanun-2 Hanun HNp לְ/נַחֲמֽ/וֹ 𐤋/𐤍𐤇𐤌/𐤅 lenachamo-2 to comfort him HR/Vpc/Sp3ms

and they said princes of the sons of Ammon to Hanun honoring David [direct object marker] your father in your eyes that he has sent to you comforters Have not for the purpose of to search and to overthrow and to spy out the land come his servants to you

and he took Hanun the servants of David and he shaved them and he cut off the their garments in the middle up to their hips and he sent them away

4 וַ/יִּקַּ֨ח 𐤅/𐤉𐤒𐤇 vayiqach and he took HC/Vqw3ms חָנ֜וּן 𐤇𐤍𐤅𐤍 chanun Hanun HNp אֶת 𐤀𐤕 et the HTo עַבְדֵ֤י 𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤉 avedey servants of HNcmpc דָוִיד֙ 𐤃𐤅𐤉𐤃 david David HNp וַֽ/יְגַלְּחֵ֔/ם 𐤅/𐤉𐤂𐤋𐤇/𐤌 vayegalechem and he shaved them HC/Vpw3ms/Sp3mp וַ/יִּכְרֹ֧ת 𐤅/𐤉𐤊𐤓𐤕 vayikherot and he cut off HC/Vqw3ms אֶת 𐤀𐤕 et-2 the HTo מַדְוֵי/הֶ֛ם 𐤌𐤃𐤅𐤉/𐤄𐤌 madeveyhem their garments HNcmpc/Sp3mp בַּ/חֵ֖צִי 𐤁/𐤇𐤑𐤉 bachetsi in the middle HRd/Ncmsa עַד 𐤏𐤃 ad up to HR הַ/מִּפְשָׂעָ֑ה 𐤄/𐤌𐤐𐤔𐤏𐤄 hamifesaah their hips HTd/Ncfsa וַֽ/יְשַׁלְּחֵֽ/ם 𐤅/𐤉𐤔𐤋𐤇/𐤌 vayeshalechem and he sent them away HC/Vpw3ms/Sp3mp

and they went and told to David about the men and he sent to meet them for they were the men humiliated greatly and the king said the king stay in Jericho until that grows your beard and return

and they saw sons of Ammon that they had made themselves odious to David and sent Hanun and sons of Ammon a thousand talents of silver to hire for themselves from Aram Naharaim and from Aram Maacah and from Zobah chariots and horsemen

6 וַ/יִּרְאוּ֙ 𐤅/𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤅 vayireu and they saw HC/Vqw3mp בְּנֵ֣י 𐤁𐤍𐤉 beney Bene (Bemba) sons of HNcmpc עַמּ֔וֹן 𐤏𐤌𐤅𐤍 amon Ammon HNp כִּ֥י 𐤊𐤉 ki that HC הִֽתְבָּאֲשׁ֖וּ 𐤄𐤕𐤁𐤀𐤔𐤅 hitebaashu they had made themselves odious HVtp3cp עִם 𐤏𐤌 im to HR דָּוִ֑יד 𐤃𐤅𐤉𐤃 david David HNp וַ/יִּשְׁלַ֣ח 𐤅/𐤉𐤔𐤋𐤇 vayishelach and sent HC/Vqw3ms חָ֠נוּן 𐤇𐤍𐤅𐤍 chanun Hanun HNp וּ/בְנֵ֨י 𐤅/𐤁𐤍𐤉 uveney Bene (Bemba) and sons of HC/Ncmpc עַמּ֜וֹן 𐤏𐤌𐤅𐤍 amon-2 Ammon HNp אֶ֣לֶף 𐤀𐤋𐤐 elef a thousand HAcbsa כִּכַּר 𐤊𐤊𐤓 kikar talents HNcbsc כֶּ֗סֶף 𐤊𐤎𐤐 kesef of silver HNcmsa לִ/שְׂכֹּ֣ר 𐤋/𐤔𐤊𐤓 lisekor to hire HR/Vqc לָ֠/הֶם 𐤋/𐤄𐤌 lahem for themselves HR/Sp3mp מִן 𐤌𐤍 min from HR אֲרַ֨ם 𐤀𐤓𐤌 aram Aram HNp נַהֲרַ֜יִם 𐤍𐤄𐤓𐤉𐤌 naharayim Naharaim HNp וּ/מִן 𐤅/𐤌𐤍 umin and from HC/R אֲרַ֤ם 𐤀𐤓𐤌 aram-2 Aram HNp מַעֲכָה֙ 𐤌𐤏𐤊𐤄 maakhah Maacah HNp וּ/מִ/צּוֹבָ֔ה 𐤅/𐤌/𐤑𐤅𐤁𐤄 umitsovah and from Zobah HC/R/Np רֶ֖כֶב 𐤓𐤊𐤁 rekhev chariots HNcmsa וּ/פָרָשִֽׁים 𐤅/𐤐𐤓𐤔𐤉𐤌 ufarashim and horsemen HC/Ncmpa

and they hired for them two and thirty thousand chariots and king of Maacah and his people and they came and encamped before Medeba and the sons of Ammon gathered themselves from their cities and came to the battle

7 וַ/יִּשְׂכְּר֣וּ 𐤅/𐤉𐤔𐤊𐤓𐤅 vayisekeru and they hired HC/Vqw3mp לָ/הֶ֡ם 𐤋/𐤄𐤌 lahem for them HR/Sp3mp שְׁנַיִם֩ 𐤔𐤍𐤉𐤌 shenayim two HAcmda וּ/שְׁלֹשִׁ֨ים 𐤅/𐤔𐤋𐤔𐤉𐤌 usheloshim and thirty HC/Acbpa אֶ֜לֶף 𐤀𐤋𐤐 elef thousand HAcbsa רֶ֗כֶב 𐤓𐤊𐤁 rekhev chariots HNcmsa וְ/אֶת 𐤅/𐤀𐤕 veet and HC/To מֶ֤לֶךְ 𐤌𐤋𐤊 melekhe king HNcmsc מַעֲכָה֙ 𐤌𐤏𐤊𐤄 maakhah of Maacah HNp וְ/אֶת 𐤅/𐤀𐤕 veet-2 and HC/To עַמּ֔/וֹ 𐤏𐤌/𐤅 amo his people HNcmsc/Sp3ms וַ/יָּבֹ֕אוּ 𐤅/𐤉𐤁𐤀𐤅 vayavou and they came HC/Vqw3mp וַֽ/יַּחֲנ֖וּ 𐤅/𐤉𐤇𐤍𐤅 vayachanu and encamped HC/Vqw3mp לִ/פְנֵ֣י 𐤋/𐤐𐤍𐤉 lifeney before HR/Ncbpc מֵידְבָ֑א 𐤌𐤉𐤃𐤁𐤀 meydeva Medeba HNp וּ/בְנֵ֣י 𐤅/𐤁𐤍𐤉 uveney Bene (Bemba) and the sons of HC/Ncmpc עַמּ֗וֹן 𐤏𐤌𐤅𐤍 amon Ammon HNp נֶאֶסְפוּ֙ 𐤍𐤀𐤎𐤐𐤅 neesefu gathered themselves HVNp3cp מֵ/עָ֣רֵי/הֶ֔ם 𐤌/𐤏𐤓𐤉/𐤄𐤌 meareyhem from their cities HR/Ncfpc/Sp3mp וַ/יָּבֹ֖אוּ 𐤅/𐤉𐤁𐤀𐤅 vayavou-2 and came HC/Vqw3mp לַ/מִּלְחָמָֽה 𐤋/𐤌𐤋𐤇𐤌𐤄 lamilechamah to the battle HRd/Ncfsa

and he heard David and he sent [direct object marker] Joab and [direct object marker] all army the mighty men

8 וַ/יִּשְׁמַ֖ע 𐤅/𐤉𐤔𐤌𐤏 vayishema and he heard HC/Vqw3ms דָּוִ֑יד 𐤃𐤅𐤉𐤃 david David HNp וַ/יִּשְׁלַח֙ 𐤅/𐤉𐤔𐤋𐤇 vayishelach and he sent HC/Vqw3ms אֶת 𐤀𐤕 et [direct object marker] HTo יוֹאָ֔ב 𐤉𐤅𐤀𐤁 yoav Joab HNp וְ/אֵ֥ת 𐤅/𐤀𐤕 veet and [direct object marker] HC/To כָּל 𐤊𐤋 kal all HNcmsc צָבָ֖א 𐤑𐤁𐤀 tsava army HNcbsa הַ/גִּבּוֹרִֽים 𐤄/𐤂𐤁𐤅𐤓𐤉𐤌 hagiborim the mighty men HTd/Aampa

and they came out sons of Ammon and they arrayed battle entrance of the city and the kings that had come by themselves in the field

9 וַ/יֵּצְאוּ֙ 𐤅/𐤉𐤑𐤀𐤅 vayetseu and they came out HC/Vqw3mp בְּנֵ֣י 𐤁𐤍𐤉 beney Bene (Bemba) sons of HNcmpc עַמּ֔וֹן 𐤏𐤌𐤅𐤍 amon Ammon HNp וַ/יַּֽעַרְכ֥וּ 𐤅/𐤉𐤏𐤓𐤊𐤅 vayaarekhu and they arrayed HC/Vqw3mp מִלְחָמָ֖ה 𐤌𐤋𐤇𐤌𐤄 milechamah battle HNcfsa פֶּ֣תַח 𐤐𐤕𐤇 petach entrance HNcmsc הָ/עִ֑יר 𐤄/𐤏𐤉𐤓 hair of the city HTd/Ncfsa וְ/הַ/מְּלָכִ֣ים 𐤅/𐤄/𐤌𐤋𐤊𐤉𐤌 vehamelakhim and the kings HC/Td/Ncmpa אֲשֶׁר 𐤀𐤔𐤓 asher that HTr בָּ֔אוּ 𐤁𐤀𐤅 bau had come HVqp3cp לְ/בַדָּ֖/ם 𐤋/𐤁𐤃/𐤌 levadam by themselves HR/Ncmsc/Sp3mp בַּ/שָּׂדֶֽה 𐤁/𐤔𐤃𐤄 basadeh in the field HRd/Ncmsa

and he saw Joab that was face of the battle against him before and behind and he chose from all choice of Israel and he arrayed against Aram

10 וַ/יַּ֣רְא 𐤅/𐤉𐤓𐤀 vayare and he saw HC/Vqw3ms יוֹאָ֗ב 𐤉𐤅𐤀𐤁 yoav Joab HNp כִּֽי 𐤊𐤉 ki that HC הָיְתָ֧ה 𐤄𐤉𐤕𐤄 hayetah was HVqp3fs פְנֵי 𐤐𐤍𐤉 feney face of HNcbpc הַ/מִּלְחָמָ֛ה 𐤄/𐤌𐤋𐤇𐤌𐤄 hamilechamah the battle HTd/Ncfsa אֵלָ֖י/ו 𐤀𐤋𐤉/𐤅 elayv against him HR/Sp3ms פָּנִ֣ים 𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤌 panim before HNcbpa וְ/אָח֑וֹר 𐤅/𐤀𐤇𐤅𐤓 veachor and behind HC/Ncmsa וַ/יִּבְחַ֗ר 𐤅/𐤉𐤁𐤇𐤓 vayivechar and he chose HC/Vqw3ms מִ/כָּל 𐤌/𐤊𐤋 mikal from all HR/Ncmsc בָּחוּר֙ 𐤁𐤇𐤅𐤓 bachur choice HVqsmsa בְּ/יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל 𐤁/𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 beyiserael of Israel HR/Np וַֽ/יַּעֲרֹ֖ךְ 𐤅/𐤉𐤏𐤓𐤊 vayaarokhe and he arrayed HC/Vqw3ms לִ/קְרַ֥את 𐤋/𐤒𐤓𐤀𐤕 liqerat against HR/Vqc אֲרָֽם 𐤀𐤓𐤌 aram Aram HNp

and-[direct object marker] rest of the people he put in the hand of Abishai his brother and they arrayed to meet sons of Ammon

11 וְ/אֵת֙ 𐤅/𐤀𐤕 veet and-[direct object marker] HC/To יֶ֣תֶר 𐤉𐤕𐤓 yeter rest HNcmsc הָ/עָ֔ם 𐤄/𐤏𐤌 haam of the people HTd/Ncmsa נָתַ֕ן 𐤍𐤕𐤍 natan he put HVqp3ms בְּ/יַ֖ד 𐤁/𐤉𐤃 beyad in the hand of HR/Ncbsc אַבְשַׁ֣י 𐤀𐤁𐤔𐤉 aveshay Abishai HNp אָחִ֑י/ו 𐤀𐤇𐤉/𐤅 achiv his brother HNcmsc/Sp3ms וַ/יַּ֣עַרְכ֔וּ 𐤅/𐤉𐤏𐤓𐤊𐤅 vayaarekhu and they arrayed HC/Vqw3mp לִ/קְרַ֖את 𐤋/𐤒𐤓𐤀𐤕 liqerat to meet HR/Vqc בְּנֵ֥י 𐤁𐤍𐤉 beney Bene (Bemba) sons of HNcmpc עַמּֽוֹן 𐤏𐤌𐤅𐤍 amon Ammon HNp

And he said if you are strong than me Aram then you shall be to me for salvation and if sons of Ammon they are strong than you then I will save you

12 וַ/יֹּ֗אמֶר 𐤅/𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 vayomer And he said HC/Vqw3ms אִם 𐤀𐤌 im if HC תֶּחֱזַ֤ק 𐤕𐤇𐤆𐤒 techezaq you are strong HVqi3fs מִמֶּ֨/נִּי֙ 𐤌𐤌/𐤍𐤉 mimeni than me HR/Sp1cs אֲרָ֔ם 𐤀𐤓𐤌 aram Aram HNp וְ/הָיִ֥יתָ 𐤅/𐤄𐤉𐤉𐤕 vehayita then you shall be HC/Vqq2ms לִּ֖/י 𐤋/𐤉 li to me HR/Sp1cs לִ/תְשׁוּעָ֑ה 𐤋/𐤕𐤔𐤅𐤏𐤄 liteshuah for salvation HR/Ncfsa וְ/אִם 𐤅/𐤀𐤌 veim and if HC/C בְּנֵ֥י 𐤁𐤍𐤉 beney Bene (Bemba) sons of HNcmpc עַמּ֛וֹן 𐤏𐤌𐤅𐤍 amon Ammon HNp יֶֽחֶזְק֥וּ 𐤉𐤇𐤆𐤒𐤅 yechezequ they are strong HVqi3mp מִמְּ/ךָ֖ 𐤌𐤌/𐤊 mimekha than you HR/Sp2ms וְ/הוֹשַׁעְתִּֽי/ךָ 𐤅/𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏𐤕𐤉/𐤊 vehoshaetikha then I will save you HC/Vhq1cs/Sp2ms

Be strong and let us strengthen ourselves for the sake of our people and for the sake of the cities of our God and YHWH the good in his eyes will do
