2 Timothy

Endure hardship, preach the Word, and finish the race

New Testament · 4 chapters

Chapter 1
Παῦλος greets Τιμόθεος, thanks Θεός for his faith from Λωΐς and Εὐνίκη, urges him to fan the gift of Θεός, not be ashamed of the testimony of our Κύριος or Paul's chains, but share suffering for the εὐαγγέλιον by the power of Θεός, and notes all in Asia deserted him except Οννησφόρος[1][2][3].
Chapter 2
Paul exhorts Timothy to be strong in the grace in Christ Iēsous, entrusting teachings to faithful men (2:1-2), using metaphors of soldier, athlete, and farmer for endurance (2:3-6). He reminds of Christ Iēsous raised from dead, urges enduring hardship for reigning with him (2:8-13), and instructs handling the word of truth rightly as approved worker, avoiding quarrels (2:14-26).
Chapter 3
Paul warns Timothy about false teachers and apostasy that will come in the future, instructing him to remember the Scriptures and continue in sound teaching[2]. The chapter emphasizes Timothy's responsibility to hold to correct doctrine and remain faithful to the gospel message despite the corruption spreading through the church[2].
Chapter 4
Paul solemnly charges Timothy in the presence of Theos and Christos Iēsous to preach the word, be prepared in season and out of season, correct, rebuke, and encourage with patience, foreseeing people turning to myths[1]. He reflects on having fought the good fight, finished the race, kept the faith, anticipating the crown of righteousness; requests Timothy's visit, mentions personal matters including deserters and supporters, and concludes with greetings and a doxology[1].
