ᾍδῃ

háidēs

Hades

The realm or abode of the dead; the place where departed human spirits reside after death. In classical and Hellenistic Greek, ᾅδης refers to the underworld, the shadowy place inhabited by all the dead (both righteous and unrighteous). In Koine Greek contexts, especially the Septuagint and New Testament, ᾅδης is commonly used to render the Hebrew שְׁאוֹל (Sheol), broadly signifying the grave or the realm of the dead without reference to moral judgment or punishment. Rarely, it can be personified as Death itself or as a mythological figure.

SIBI-P1 Translation G86-01

to the unseen realm

Morphological NotesNoun, dative masculine singular (Gr,N,,,,,DMS); denotes indirect object or location in/at/to the realm of the dead.
Rendering RationaleThe dative singular form ᾍδῃ indicates direction or location, hence "to the unseen realm." "Unseen realm" reflects the etymological sense (ἀ- + εἴδω, "not seen") and preserves its reference to the abode of the dead without importing later notions of torment.
