The Word 'Jew' Does Not Exist in Scripture: Uncovering the Truth About Jewish Roots

Introduction: Challenging Common Assumptions

What's the truth about Jewish roots? The word Jew does not exist anywhere in scripture. Whenever you read in your Bible about Yeshua, King of the Jews, or Mordecai the Jew, the original term is not "Jew." This is a critical distinction that changes everything about understanding biblical identity.[^1]

This teaching draws from The Scattered Israelites (Volume 7), available as a free PDF at israelitemedia.com/jws. It reveals why West Africans and their diaspora are the true Israelites of the Bible.

No 'Jew' in Original Hebrew or Greek Manuscripts

The word Jew, along with derivatives like Jews or Jewish, does not exist in the original scriptures:
- Hebrew manuscripts of the Old Testament.
- Greek manuscripts of the New Testament.
- Greek Septuagint.[^2]

Old Testament: Yehudi (Strong's H3064)

In the Old Testament, written primarily in Hebrew, the word translated as "Jew" is Yehudi (יהודי), meaning a Judean – specifically someone from the tribe of Judah or later an Israelite living in the territory of Judah.[^3]

After the United Monarchy divided, the southern kingdom of Judah consisted mainly of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin. Thus, Yehudi expanded to include any Israelite in that region, regardless of tribal lineage.

  • Yehudi derives from Yehudah (Judah).
  • Examples:
  • Paul was a Yehudi but from the tribe of Benjamin (Philippians 3:5).
  • Anna the prophetess, who saw baby Yeshua, was from Asher but called Yehudi (Luke 2:36).[^4]

All forms of Yehudi in Hebrew scriptures feature the Dalet (ד), the fourth Hebrew letter representing the "D" sound. Transliterations like Yehudim preserve this: vim'hoodim. The English Jew lacks the "D," so the proper translation is Judean or Judahite.[^5]

This matters because Yehudi ties to historical people, land, and culture of Judah. Jew refers to modern Jews, who are not Israelites.

New Testament: Ioudaios (Strong's G2453)

In the Greek New Testament, the word is Ioudaios (Ἰουδαῖος), pronounced ee-oo-deh'-os, also meaning Judean – from Judah's tribe or Judah/Benjamin territory.[^6]

Over time, Ioudaios expanded to anyone adhering to Judaism, a false religion mimicking YHWH's covenant with Israelites. This shift allowed non-descendants of Jacob to be called Judeans.

All Greek forms feature the Delta (Δ), the fourth Greek letter with the "D" sound. Proper translation: Judean or Judahite, not Jew.

Origin of the English Word 'Jew'

Jew comes from Old French jew or giu (Middle English, 11th-15th centuries), evolving to lose the "D." It wasn't used during Old or New Testament times. Yehudi and Ioudaios preserve the "D" from Yehudah, maintaining scriptural context.[^7]

Using Jew confuses readers, linking scripture to contemporary Jewish identity instead of ancient Judeans.

"Strictly speaking, it is incorrect to call an ancient Israelite a Jew or to call a contemporary Jew an Israelite or a Hebrew."

Biblical Evidence: Gentiles Become 'Judeans'

The Bible does not support Jews descending from Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Instead, it shows Gentiles adopted Judean identity during Judah's Babylonian exile.

Esther 8:17 (proper translation):

"In every province and in every city, wherever the king's command and his edict reached, there was gladness and joy among the Judeans, a feast and a holiday. And many from the peoples of the country declared themselves Judeans for fear of the Judeans had fallen on them."[^9]

In vast Persia (from Cush to India), Gentiles took on Judah's identity and practices. This traces contemporary Jews' ancestors – not true Israelites.

Why Jews Fail Israelite Prophecies

Jews have not fulfilled key biblical prophecies for Israelites, such as enslavement curses (Deuteronomy 28:68). Trace Transatlantic Slave Trade enslavement to Israel's punishment – no records of Jews targeted in America, Caribbean, or South America.[^10]

YHWH scattered true Israelites; they are now awakening as West Africans and diaspora.
