The Second Exodus: True Israelites Return to the Wilderness First
A Call to the Scattered House of Israel
Oh my fellow Israelites, the time of our long scattering is drawing to a close. For generations, we have been dispersed among the nations, living in the lands of our scattering, captivity, and judgment. But the voice of YHWH is beginning to stir in the hearts of his people. He is calling us to look toward the horizon, for a day is coming—and is even now approaching—when he will gather us from the corners of the earth.
This is not merely a physical relocation. It is a spiritual journey of purification, a second exodus that will lead us through the wilderness before we are permitted to set foot in the promised land. We must understand that the wilderness is not a place to be feared, but a sacred place of encounter. It is where YHWH will judge us face to face, where he will refine us as silver is refined, and where he will bring us into the bond of the new covenant.
As we prepare for this great gathering, let us set our hearts on the path of repentance and look toward Yahushua, the Messiah, YHWH himself in the flesh, who is the leader of our assembly.
Repentance: The Foundation of Restoration
Before the first step is taken toward the wilderness, a work must begin within our own hearts. YHWH has made it clear that we will not be gathered without repentance. This is the foundation upon which the entire restoration of Israel is built.
We must leave behind the ways of the nations where we have been scattered and turn back to the God of our fathers with all our hearts. Repentance involves more than just a personal turning. It requires us to confess our sins and the sins of our ancestors. We must acknowledge that we have gone astray and that our scattering and captivity were the result of our disobedience.
YHWH is waiting for this confession, as it is written:
And when all these things come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you call them to mind among all the nations where YHWH your God has driven you, and return to YHWH your God, you and your children, and obey his voice in all that I command you today, with all your heart and with all your soul, then YHWH your God will restore your fortunes and have mercy on you, and he will gather you again from all the peoples where YHWH your God has scattered you. (Deuteronomy 30:1-3)
Each of us must begin now: repenting, turning away from sin, walking in the footsteps of Yahushua, obeying his commandments, and growing in righteousness. Without this turning of the heart, there will be no gathering for us. We must come out of deception and believe in Yahushua, for he is the one through whom our restoration is made possible.
Signs of the Second Exodus
How will we know when it is time to flee? When will the signal be given to enter the wilderness? YHWH has not left us without answers. He has provided clear signs of the second exodus so that his people will not be caught unawares.
1. The Breaking of the Nations
First, we must observe the nations. Just as in the first Exodus, the nations that have enslaved and oppressed the Israelites must first be broken. YHWH will bring justice, devastating these lands through war, destruction, and judgment. Do not fear when these things begin to unfold. YHWH knows how to preserve his people even in the midst of judgment. We must remember how the Israelites were kept safe in Goshen while Egypt was struck with plagues and how Lot was delivered from Sodom.
It is written in Ezekiel 20:
As I live, declares the Lord YHWH, surely with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out, I will be king over you. I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you are scattered with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and with wrath poured out. And I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples and there I will enter into judgment with you face to face.
2. Departing with Wealth
Second, scripture shows that we will not leave the lands of our scattering and captivity empty-handed. Just as our ancestors left Egypt with great wealth, the gathered Israelites will depart with silver, gold, and flocks for offerings.
Zephaniah 3:10 tells us:
From beyond the rivers of Cush, my worshippers, the daughter of my dispersed ones, shall bring my offering.
We will be bringing our offerings from beyond the rivers of Cush—that is a reference to sub-Saharan Africa.
Isaiah 14:1-2 declares:
For YHWH will have compassion on Jacob and will again choose Israel and will set them in their own land, and sojourners will join them and will attach themselves to the house of Jacob. And the peoples will take them and bring them to their place, and the house of Israel will possess them in YHWH's land as male and female slaves. They will take captive those who were their captors and rule over those who oppressed them.
When you see the nations shaking—particularly those who enslaved us during the Arab and transatlantic slave trades—when you see them shaking, preparing to go to war to devastate themselves, and you see more and more Israelites turning to the true faith of Yahushua and confessing our sins, know then that the time of the gathering is near.
The Wilderness of the Peoples: Judgment and Purification
YHWH himself will call his people to himself in the wilderness. This is prophesied. The destination of this gathering is the wilderness of the peoples. This is not merely a geographic location. It is a place of judgment and purification. It is likely the very place where our ancestors first entered into covenant with YHWH: Mount Sinai in Arabia (Galatians 4:25). This was the location where the first covenant was confirmed, and it is very likely where the new covenant will be established with the house of Israel and the house of Judah.
In this wilderness we will experience a face-to-face encounter with the Almighty. YHWH has promised:
And I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will enter into judgment with you face to face. As I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will enter into judgment with you, declares the Lord YHWH. (Ezekiel 20:35-36 ESV)
This encounter is for our refinement. It is in the wilderness that we will see Yahushua face to face. Just as the elders of Israel once went up the mountain and saw the God of Israel, beholding him while they ate and drank (Exodus 24:9-11). We too shall behold the image of the invisible God. Yahushua himself said, "Whoever has seen me has seen the Father." In the wilderness, the true Israelites will see him, be judged by him, and be refined.
Passing Under the Rod
The process of purification in the wilderness is described as passing under the rod. This is a shepherd's term referring to the way a shepherd counts and inspects each sheep as they enter the fold. YHWH will inspect each of us to see who truly belongs to him.
I will make you pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant. I will purge out the rebels from among you and those who transgress against me. I will bring them out of the land where they sojourn, but they shall not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am YHWH. (Ezekiel 20:37-38)
This is a sobering reality. Not everyone who leaves the nations will enter the promised land. The wilderness serves as a filter. Those who remain in rebellion, those who refuse to repent, and those who continue to transgress against YHWH will be purged. They will be brought out of the land of their sojourning, but they will not be permitted to enter the land of Israel.
Only the purified remnant, those who have been refined and have submitted to the authority of YHWH, will move forward.
The New Covenant in the Wilderness
For those who pass under the rod, the wilderness becomes the birthplace of a new life. It is here that we enter into the bond of the covenant as a nation. This is the new covenant that was established through the death of Yahushua, a death that redeems us from the transgressions committed under the first covenant (Hebrews 9:15).
This covenant is different from the one made at Sinai that our fathers broke. As Jeremiah prophesied:
Behold, the days are coming, declares YHWH, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares YHWH. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares YHWH. I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. (Jeremiah 31:31-33 ESV)
In the wilderness, the Torah will no longer be merely on tablets of stone. It will be written upon our very hearts. If you are born again today, this should be your reality today. We will be united as one nation, no longer divided, but bound together by the spirit of YHWH, the Ruah Hakodesh, and the blood of the Messiah. This is the covenant of salvation, restoration, and gathering.
Yahushua: Our Leader and King
We do not make this journey alone. Yahushua himself is the one who gathers the remnant of Israel and leads them back into their land. He is the breaker who goes up before us.
I will surely assemble all of you, oh Jacob. I will gather the remnant of Israel. I will set them together like sheep in a fold, like a flock in its pasture, a noisy multitude of men. He who opens the breach goes up before them. They break through and pass the gate, going out by it. Their king passes on before them, YHWH at their head. (Micah 2:12-13 ESV)
Yahushua is our king, our head, and our Elohim. He is the one who will re-establish the land and divide it among the tribes once again in the wilderness. He will reveal our tribal identities, showing us who belongs to which tribe and who will serve in specific roles. He is the shepherd who sets us together in the fold, protecting us and guiding us toward our inheritance.
Return to the Promised Land
The goal of the wilderness gathering is our return to the land of Israel as a united and purified nation. Once the rebels are purged and the remnant is purified, Yahushua will lead us across the border into the land promised to our forefathers.
In the wilderness, YHWH promises to begin the restoration of our inheritance. As he says in Hosea 2:15, "There I will give her her vineyards." These vineyards symbolize the tribal allotments that will be given back to us. Each tribe has a specific portion of land assigned to it with boundaries clearly laid out in the visions of Ezekiel.
The restoration will be so complete that the land will overflow with abundance. We look forward to the fulfillment of the words of Amos:
Behold, the days are coming, declares YHWH, when the plowman shall overtake the reaper and the treader of grapes him who sows the seed. The mountains shall drip sweet wine and all the hills shall flow with it. I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel, and they shall rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them. They shall plant vineyards and drink their wine, and they shall make gardens and eat their fruit. I will plant them on their land, and they shall never again be uprooted out of the land that I have given them, says YHWH your God. (Amos 9:13-15 ESV)
Prepare Your Heart
Oh house of Israel, do you see it clearly? The wilderness is not a place of wandering but a place of purification. It is the corridor to our home. It is where we leave behind the filth of the nations and put on the garments of righteousness.
It is time to leave the nations of our scattering, judgment, and captivity. It is time to go home. But before we go, we must repent. We must turn our eyes toward Yahushua, the image of the invisible God, and prepare our hearts to pass under his rod.
Be encouraged, for YHWH has not forgotten his people. He is coming to gather us. He is coming to lead us. He is coming to restore us. Let us prepare ourselves in holiness and truth.
