Nahum

The fall of Nineveh and God's vengeance on the wicked

Old Testament · 3 chapters

Chapter 1
YHWH is introduced as a jealous and avenging God who is slow to anger but will not leave the guilty unpunished, declaring destruction against Nineveh and its plotting king while promising to break the yoke from Judah and restore their feasts.[1][2][4]
Chapter 2
YHWH restores the excellence of Jacob as chariots rage through Nineveh's streets like a draining pool, with the city captured, its lion's den plundered, and YHWH declaring, 'I am against you.'[1][2][5][6]
Chapter 3
Nahum pronounces YHWH's judgment on Nineveh for its harlotries, sorceries, and brutal tyranny over nations, declaring its complete destruction, exposure of nakedness to the nations, and inevitable downfall despite its strength and wealth.[2][4][5]
