2 Peter
Grow in knowledge, beware false teachers, and the day of the Lord
New Testament · 3 chapters
Chapter 1
Πέτρος greets believers, urging them to supplement their faith with virtues like knowledge, self-control, and love to confirm their calling and avoid stumbling, affirming the reliability of prophetic word confirmed by his eyewitness of Christ's transfiguration and the Holy Spirit's inspiration of Scripture.
Chapter 2
Peter addresses corrupt teachers who deny the reality of final judgment and lead the church astray through immoral behavior and distorted theology, particularly regarding money and sexual conduct. Peter uses Old Testament examples of divine judgment—the flood and Sodom and Gomorrah—to demonstrate that God holds people accountable for their choices while remaining faithful to deliver the righteous.
Chapter 3
Peter reminds believers of the prophets' and apostles' words, warning of scoffers in the last days who mock Christ's promised coming by claiming uniformitarianism, ignoring God's creation of the world and its destruction by the flood through His word, with the present heavens and earth reserved for fire at the day of judgment.[1][2][4] He explains God's patience as longsuffering for repentance, affirms the sudden arrival of the day of the Lord like a thief with cosmic dissolution by fire, and urges holy living, looking forward to new heavens and earth where righteousness dwells.[1][3][4]
