2 Samuel 10

And it happened after so died the king of the sons of Ammon and reigned Hanun his son in his place

1 וַֽ/יְהִי֙ 𐤅/𐤉𐤄𐤉 vayehi And it happened HC/Vqw3ms אַֽחֲרֵי 𐤀𐤇𐤓𐤉 acharey after HR כֵ֔ן 𐤊𐤍 khen so HD וַ/יָּ֕מָת 𐤅/𐤉𐤌𐤕 vayamat died HC/Vqw3ms מֶ֖לֶךְ 𐤌𐤋𐤊 melekhe the king HNcmsc בְּנֵ֣י 𐤁𐤍𐤉 beney Bene (Bemba) of the sons of HNcmpc עַמּ֑וֹן 𐤏𐤌𐤅𐤍 amon Ammon HNp וַ/יִּמְלֹ֛ךְ 𐤅/𐤉𐤌𐤋𐤊 vayimelokhe and reigned HC/Vqw3ms חָנ֥וּן 𐤇𐤍𐤅𐤍 chanun Hanun HNp בְּנ֖/וֹ 𐤁𐤍/𐤅 beno Bene (Bemba) his son HNcmsc/Sp3ms תַּחְתָּֽי/ו 𐤕𐤇𐤕𐤉/𐤅 tachetayv in his place HR/Sp3ms

And said David I will do kindness to Hanun son of Nahash as did his father to me kindness And sent David to comfort him by the hand of his servants concerning his father And came servants of David to the land of children of Ammon

2 וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר 𐤅/𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 vayomer And said HC/Vqw3ms דָּוִ֜ד 𐤃𐤅𐤃 david David HNp אֶעֱשֶׂה 𐤀𐤏𐤔𐤄 eeseh I will do HVqi1cs חֶ֣סֶד 𐤇𐤎𐤃 chesed kindness HNcmsa עִם 𐤏𐤌 im to HR חָנ֣וּן 𐤇𐤍𐤅𐤍 chanun Hanun HNp בֶּן 𐤁𐤍 ben Bene (Bemba) son of HNcmsc נָחָ֗שׁ 𐤍𐤇𐤔 nachash Nahash HNp כַּ/אֲשֶׁר֩ 𐤊/𐤀𐤔𐤓 kaasher as HR/Tr עָשָׂ֨ה 𐤏𐤔𐤄 asah did HVqp3ms אָבִ֤י/ו 𐤀𐤁𐤉/𐤅 aviv his father HNcmsc/Sp3ms עִמָּדִ/י֙ 𐤏𐤌𐤃/𐤉 imadi to me HR/Sp1cs חֶ֔סֶד 𐤇𐤎𐤃 chesed-2 kindness HNcmsa וַ/יִּשְׁלַ֨ח 𐤅/𐤉𐤔𐤋𐤇 vayishelach And sent HC/Vqw3ms דָּוִ֧ד 𐤃𐤅𐤃 david-2 David HNp לְ/נַחֲמ֛/וֹ 𐤋/𐤍𐤇𐤌/𐤅 lenachamo to comfort him HR/Vpc/Sp3ms בְּ/יַד 𐤁/𐤉𐤃 beyad by the hand of HR/Ncbsc עֲבָדָ֖י/ו 𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤉/𐤅 avadayv his servants HNcmpc/Sp3ms אֶל 𐤀𐤋 el concerning HR אָבִ֑י/ו 𐤀𐤁𐤉/𐤅 aviv-2 his father HNcmsc/Sp3ms וַ/יָּבֹ֨אוּ֙ 𐤅/𐤉𐤁𐤀𐤅 vayavou And came HC/Vqw3mp עַבְדֵ֣י 𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤉 avedey servants of HNcmpc דָוִ֔ד 𐤃𐤅𐤃 david-3 David HNp אֶ֖רֶץ 𐤀𐤓𐤑 erets to the land of HNcbsc בְּנֵ֥י 𐤁𐤍𐤉 beney Bene (Bemba) children of HNcmpc עַמּֽוֹן 𐤏𐤌𐤅𐤍 amon Ammon HNp

and they said princes of the sons of Ammon to Hanun their lord honoring David (direct object marker) your father in your eyes that he has sent to you comforters not to search (direct object marker) the city and to spy on it and to overthrow it sent David (direct object marker) his servants to you

3 וַ/יֹּאמְרוּ֩ 𐤅/𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤅 vayomeru and they said HC/Vqw3mp שָׂרֵ֨י 𐤔𐤓𐤉 sarey princes HNcmpc בְנֵֽי 𐤁𐤍𐤉 veney Bene (Bemba) of the sons HNcmpc עַמּ֜וֹן 𐤏𐤌𐤅𐤍 amon of Ammon HNp אֶל 𐤀𐤋 el to HR חָנ֣וּן 𐤇𐤍𐤅𐤍 chanun Hanun HNp אֲדֹֽנֵי/הֶ֗ם 𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉/𐤄𐤌 adoneyhem their lord HNcmpc/Sp3mp הַֽ/מְכַבֵּ֨ד 𐤄/𐤌𐤊𐤁𐤃 hamekhabed honoring HTi/Vprmsa דָּוִ֤ד 𐤃𐤅𐤃 david David HNp אֶת 𐤀𐤕 et (direct object marker) HTo אָבִ֨י/ךָ֙ 𐤀𐤁𐤉/𐤊 avikha your father HNcmsc/Sp2ms בְּ/עֵינֶ֔י/ךָ 𐤁/𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉/𐤊 beeyneykha in your eyes HR/Ncbdc/Sp2ms כִּֽי 𐤊𐤉 ki that HC שָׁלַ֥ח 𐤔𐤋𐤇 shalach he has sent HVqp3ms לְ/ךָ֖ 𐤋/𐤊 lekha to you HR/Sp2ms מְנַֽחֲמִ֑ים 𐤌𐤍𐤇𐤌𐤉𐤌 menachamim comforters HVprmpa הֲ֠/לוֹא 𐤄/𐤋𐤅𐤀 halo not HTi/Tn בַּ/עֲב֞וּר 𐤁/𐤏𐤁𐤅𐤓 baavur to HR/Ncmsc חֲק֤וֹר 𐤇𐤒𐤅𐤓 chaqor search HVqc אֶת 𐤀𐤕 et-2 (direct object marker) HTo הָ/עִיר֙ 𐤄/𐤏𐤉𐤓 hair the city HTd/Ncfsa וּ/לְ/רַגְּלָ֣/הּ 𐤅/𐤋/𐤓𐤂𐤋/𐤄 uleragelah and to spy on it HC/R/Vpc/Sp3fs וּ/לְ/הָפְכָ֔/הּ 𐤅/𐤋/𐤄𐤐𐤊/𐤄 ulehafekhah and to overthrow it HC/R/Vqc/Sp3fs שָׁלַ֥ח 𐤔𐤋𐤇 shalach-2 sent HVqp3ms דָּוִ֛ד 𐤃𐤅𐤃 david-2 David HNp אֶת 𐤀𐤕 et-3 (direct object marker) HTo עֲבָדָ֖י/ו 𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤉/𐤅 avadayv his servants HNcmpc/Sp3ms אֵלֶֽי/ךָ 𐤀𐤋𐤉/𐤊 eleykha to you HR/Sp2ms

and took Hanun את servants-of David and shaved את half-of their-beard and cut-off את garments-their in-the-half as-far-as their-buttocks and sent-them-away

4 וַ/יִּקַּ֨ח 𐤅/𐤉𐤒𐤇 vayiqach and took HC/Vqw3ms חָנ֜וּן 𐤇𐤍𐤅𐤍 chanun Hanun HNp אֶת 𐤀𐤕 et את HTo עַבְדֵ֣י 𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤉 avedey servants-of HNcmpc דָוִ֗ד 𐤃𐤅𐤃 david David HNp וַ/יְגַלַּח֙ 𐤅/𐤉𐤂𐤋𐤇 vayegalach and shaved HC/Vpw3ms אֶת 𐤀𐤕 et-2 את HTo חֲצִ֣י 𐤇𐤑𐤉 chatsi half-of HNcmsc זְקָנָ֔/ם 𐤆𐤒𐤍/𐤌 zeqanam their-beard HNcbsc/Sp3mp וַ/יִּכְרֹ֧ת 𐤅/𐤉𐤊𐤓𐤕 vayikherot and cut-off HC/Vqw3ms אֶת 𐤀𐤕 et-3 את HTo מַדְוֵי/הֶ֛ם 𐤌𐤃𐤅𐤉/𐤄𐤌 madeveyhem garments-their HNcmpc/Sp3mp בַּ/חֵ֖צִי 𐤁/𐤇𐤑𐤉 bachetsi in-the-half HRd/Ncmsa עַ֣ד 𐤏𐤃 ad as-far-as HR שְׁתֽוֹתֵי/הֶ֑ם 𐤔𐤕𐤅𐤕𐤉/𐤄𐤌 shetoteyhem their-buttocks HNcmpc/Sp3mp וַֽ/יְשַׁלְּחֵֽ/ם 𐤅/𐤉𐤔𐤋𐤇/𐤌 vayeshalechem and sent-them-away HC/Vpw3ms/Sp3mp

and they told to David and he sent to meet them for they were the men humiliated greatly and said the king stay at Jericho until grow your beards and return

5 וַ/יַּגִּ֤דוּ 𐤅/𐤉𐤂𐤃𐤅 vayagidu and they told HC/Vhw3mp לְ/דָוִד֙ 𐤋/𐤃𐤅𐤃 ledavid to David HR/Np וַ/יִּשְׁלַ֣ח 𐤅/𐤉𐤔𐤋𐤇 vayishelach and he sent HC/Vqw3ms לִ/קְרָאתָ֔/ם 𐤋/𐤒𐤓𐤀𐤕/𐤌 liqeratam to meet them HR/Vqc/Sp3mp כִּֽי 𐤊𐤉 ki for HC הָי֥וּ 𐤄𐤉𐤅 hayu they were HVqp3cp הָ/אֲנָשִׁ֖ים 𐤄/𐤀𐤍𐤔𐤉𐤌 haanashim the men HTd/Ncmpa נִכְלָמִ֣ים 𐤍𐤊𐤋𐤌𐤉𐤌 nikhelamim humiliated HVNrmpa מְאֹ֑ד 𐤌𐤀𐤃 meod greatly HD וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר 𐤅/𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 vayomer and said HC/Vqw3ms הַ/מֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ 𐤄/𐤌𐤋𐤊 hamelekhe the king HTd/Ncmsa שְׁב֣וּ 𐤔𐤁𐤅 shevu stay HVqv2mp בִֽ/ירֵח֔וֹ 𐤁/𐤉𐤓𐤇𐤅 virecho at Jericho HR/Np עַד 𐤏𐤃 ad until HR יְצַמַּ֥ח 𐤉𐤑𐤌𐤇 yetsamach grow HVpi3ms זְקַנְ/כֶ֖ם 𐤆𐤒𐤍/𐤊𐤌 zeqanekhem your beards HNcbsc/Sp2mp וְ/שַׁבְתֶּֽם 𐤅/𐤔𐤁𐤕𐤌 veshavetem and return HC/Vqq2mp

and they saw sons of Ammon that they had become a stench to David and they sent sons of Ammon and they hired [direct object marker] Aram house of Rehob and [direct object marker] Aram Zobah twenty thousand foot soldiers and [direct object marker] king of Maacah thousand men and men of Tob two ten thousand men

6 וַ/יִּרְאוּ֙ 𐤅/𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤅 vayireu and they saw HC/Vqw3mp בְּנֵ֣י 𐤁𐤍𐤉 beney Bene (Bemba) sons of HNcmpc עַמּ֔וֹן 𐤏𐤌𐤅𐤍 amon Ammon HNp כִּ֥י 𐤊𐤉 ki that HC נִבְאֲשׁ֖וּ 𐤍𐤁𐤀𐤔𐤅 niveashu they had become a stench HVNp3cp בְּ/דָוִ֑ד 𐤁/𐤃𐤅𐤃 bedavid to David HR/Np וַ/יִּשְׁלְח֣וּ 𐤅/𐤉𐤔𐤋𐤇𐤅 vayishelechu and they sent HC/Vqw3mp בְנֵֽי 𐤁𐤍𐤉 veney Bene (Bemba) sons of HNcmpc עַמּ֡וֹן 𐤏𐤌𐤅𐤍 amon-2 Ammon HNp וַ/יִּשְׂכְּרוּ֩ 𐤅/𐤉𐤔𐤊𐤓𐤅 vayisekeru and they hired HC/Vqw3mp אֶת 𐤀𐤕 et [direct object marker] HTo אֲרַ֨ם 𐤀𐤓𐤌 aram Aram HNp בֵּית 𐤁𐤉𐤕 beyt house of HNp רְח֜וֹב 𐤓𐤇𐤅𐤁 rechov Rehob HNp וְ/אֶת 𐤅/𐤀𐤕 veet and [direct object marker] HC/To אֲרַ֣ם 𐤀𐤓𐤌 aram-2 Aram HNp צוֹבָ֗א 𐤑𐤅𐤁𐤀 tsova Zobah HNp עֶשְׂרִ֥ים 𐤏𐤔𐤓𐤉𐤌 eserim twenty HAcbpa אֶ֨לֶף֙ 𐤀𐤋𐤐 elef thousand HAcbsa רַגְלִ֔י 𐤓𐤂𐤋𐤉 rageli foot soldiers HAamsa וְ/אֶת 𐤅/𐤀𐤕 veet-2 and [direct object marker] HC/To מֶ֤לֶךְ 𐤌𐤋𐤊 melekhe king of HNcmsc מַֽעֲכָה֙ 𐤌𐤏𐤊𐤄 maakhah Maacah HNp אֶ֣לֶף 𐤀𐤋𐤐 elef-2 thousand HAcbsa אִ֔ישׁ 𐤀𐤉𐤔 ish men HNcmsa וְ/אִ֣ישׁ 𐤅/𐤀𐤉𐤔 veish and men of HC/Ncmsc ט֔וֹב 𐤈𐤅𐤁 tov Tob HNp שְׁנֵים 𐤔𐤍𐤉𐤌 sheneym two HAcmda עָשָׂ֥ר 𐤏𐤔𐤓 asar ten HAcmsa אֶ֖לֶף 𐤀𐤋𐤐 elef-3 thousand HAcbsa אִֽישׁ 𐤀𐤉𐤔 ish-2 men HNcmsa

And he heard David and he sent [direct object marker] Joab and [direct object marker] all the army the mighty men

7 וַ/יִּשְׁמַ֖ע 𐤅/𐤉𐤔𐤌𐤏 vayishema And he heard HC/Vqw3ms דָּוִ֑ד 𐤃𐤅𐤃 david David HNp וַ/יִּשְׁלַח֙ 𐤅/𐤉𐤔𐤋𐤇 vayishelach and he sent HC/Vqw3ms אֶת 𐤀𐤕 et [direct object marker] HTo יוֹאָ֔ב 𐤉𐤅𐤀𐤁 yoav Joab HNp וְ/אֵ֥ת 𐤅/𐤀𐤕 veet and [direct object marker] HC/To כָּל 𐤊𐤋 kal all HNcmsc הַ/צָּבָ֖א 𐤄/𐤑𐤁𐤀 hatsava the army HTd/Ncbsa הַ/גִּבֹּרִֽים 𐤄/𐤂𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤌 hagiborim the mighty men HTd/Aampa

and they came out sons of Ammon and they drew up battle entrance of the gate and Aram of Zobah and Rehob and men of Tob and Maacah by themselves in the field

8 וַ/יֵּֽצְאוּ֙ 𐤅/𐤉𐤑𐤀𐤅 vayetseu and they came out HC/Vqw3mp בְּנֵ֣י 𐤁𐤍𐤉 beney Bene (Bemba) sons of HNcmpc עַמּ֔וֹן 𐤏𐤌𐤅𐤍 amon Ammon HNp וַ/יַּעַרְכ֥וּ 𐤅/𐤉𐤏𐤓𐤊𐤅 vayaarekhu and they drew up HC/Vqw3mp מִלְחָמָ֖ה 𐤌𐤋𐤇𐤌𐤄 milechamah battle HNcfsa פֶּ֣תַח 𐤐𐤕𐤇 petach entrance of HNcmsc הַ/שָּׁ֑עַר 𐤄/𐤔𐤏𐤓 hashaar the gate HTd/Ncmsa וַ/אֲרַ֨ם 𐤅/𐤀𐤓𐤌 vaaram and Aram HC/Np צוֹבָ֤א 𐤑𐤅𐤁𐤀 tsova of Zobah HNp וּ/רְחוֹב֙ 𐤅/𐤓𐤇𐤅𐤁 urechov and Rehob HC/Np וְ/אִֽישׁ 𐤅/𐤀𐤉𐤔 veish and men of HC/Ncmsc ט֣וֹב 𐤈𐤅𐤁 tov Tob HNp וּ/מַֽעֲכָ֔ה 𐤅/𐤌𐤏𐤊𐤄 umaakhah and Maacah HC/Np לְ/בַדָּ֖/ם 𐤋/𐤁𐤃/𐤌 levadam by themselves HR/Ncmsc/Sp3mp בַּ/שָּׂדֶֽה 𐤁/𐤔𐤃𐤄 basadeh in the field HRd/Ncmsa

and saw Joab that was against him front the battle in front and from behind he selected from all choice of Israel Israel and arrayed against Aram

9 וַ/יַּ֣רְא 𐤅/𐤉𐤓𐤀 vayare and saw HC/Vqw3ms יוֹאָ֗ב 𐤉𐤅𐤀𐤁 yoav Joab HNp כִּֽי 𐤊𐤉 ki that HC הָיְתָ֤ה 𐤄𐤉𐤕𐤄 hayetah was HVqp3fs אֵלָי/ו֙ 𐤀𐤋𐤉/𐤅 elayv against him HR/Sp3ms פְּנֵ֣י 𐤐𐤍𐤉 peney front HNcbpc הַ/מִּלְחָמָ֔ה 𐤄/𐤌𐤋𐤇𐤌𐤄 hamilechamah the battle HTd/Ncfsa מִ/פָּנִ֖ים 𐤌/𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤌 mipanim in front HR/Ncbpa וּ/מֵֽ/אָח֑וֹר 𐤅/𐤌/𐤀𐤇𐤅𐤓 umeachor and from behind HC/R/Ncmsa וַ/יִּבְחַ֗ר 𐤅/𐤉𐤁𐤇𐤓 vayivechar he selected HC/Vqw3ms מִ/כֹּל֙ 𐤌/𐤊𐤋 mikol from all HR/Ncmsc בְּחוּרֵ֣י 𐤁𐤇𐤅𐤓𐤉 bechurey choice HVqsmpc ב/ישראל 𐤁/𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 vyshrl of Israel HR/Np יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 yiserael Israel HNp וַֽ/יַּעֲרֹ֖ךְ 𐤅/𐤉𐤏𐤓𐤊 vayaarokhe and arrayed HC/Vqw3ms לִ/קְרַ֥את 𐤋/𐤒𐤓𐤀𐤕 liqerat against HR/Vqc אֲרָֽם 𐤀𐤓𐤌 aram Aram HNp

and the rest of the people he put in the hand of Abishai his brother and he arrayed to meet sons of Ammon

10 וְ/אֵת֙ 𐤅/𐤀𐤕 veet and the HC/To יֶ֣תֶר 𐤉𐤕𐤓 yeter rest HNcmsc הָ/עָ֔ם 𐤄/𐤏𐤌 haam of the people HTd/Ncmsa נָתַ֕ן 𐤍𐤕𐤍 natan he put HVqp3ms בְּ/יַ֖ד 𐤁/𐤉𐤃 beyad in the hand of HR/Ncbsc אַבְשַׁ֣י 𐤀𐤁𐤔𐤉 aveshay Abishai HNp אָחִ֑י/ו 𐤀𐤇𐤉/𐤅 achiv his brother HNcmsc/Sp3ms וַֽ/יַּעֲרֹ֕ךְ 𐤅/𐤉𐤏𐤓𐤊 vayaarokhe and he arrayed HC/Vqw3ms לִ/קְרַ֖את 𐤋/𐤒𐤓𐤀𐤕 liqerat to meet HR/Vqc בְּנֵ֥י 𐤁𐤍𐤉 beney Bene (Bemba) sons of HNcmpc עַמּֽוֹן 𐤏𐤌𐤅𐤍 amon Ammon HNp

And he said If is too strong Aram for me then you shall be to me for help and if sons of Ammon are too strong for you then I will come to help you

11 וַ/יֹּ֗אמֶר 𐤅/𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 vayomer And he said HC/Vqw3ms אִם 𐤀𐤌 im If HC תֶּחֱזַ֤ק 𐤕𐤇𐤆𐤒 techezaq is too strong HVqi3fs אֲרָם֙ 𐤀𐤓𐤌 aram Aram HNp מִמֶּ֔/נִּי 𐤌𐤌/𐤍𐤉 mimeni for me HR/Sp1cs וְ/הָיִ֥תָה 𐤅/𐤄𐤉𐤕𐤄 vehayitah then you shall be HC/Vqq3fs לִּ֖/י 𐤋/𐤉 li to me HR/Sp1cs לִֽ/ישׁוּעָ֑ה 𐤋/𐤉𐤔𐤅𐤏𐤄 lishuah for help HR/Ncfsa וְ/אִם 𐤅/𐤀𐤌 veim and if HC/C בְּנֵ֤י 𐤁𐤍𐤉 beney Bene (Bemba) sons of HNcmpc עַמּוֹן֙ 𐤏𐤌𐤅𐤍 amon Ammon HNp יֶחֱזְק֣וּ 𐤉𐤇𐤆𐤒𐤅 yechezequ are too strong HVqi3mp מִמְּ/ךָ֔ 𐤌𐤌/𐤊 mimekha for you HR/Sp2ms וְ/הָלַכְתִּ֖י 𐤅/𐤄𐤋𐤊𐤕𐤉 vehalakheti then I will come HC/Vqq1cs לְ/הוֹשִׁ֥יעַֽ 𐤋/𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤉𐤏 lehoshia to help HR/Vhc לָֽ/ךְ 𐤋/𐤊 lakhe you HR/Sp2fs

Be strong and let us strengthen ourselves for the sake of our people and for the sake of cities of our God and-YHWH may do what is good in his eyes

12 חֲזַ֤ק 𐤇𐤆𐤒 chazaq Be strong HVqv2ms וְ/נִתְחַזַּק֙ 𐤅/𐤍𐤕𐤇𐤆𐤒 venitechazaq and let us strengthen ourselves HC/Vth1cp בְּעַד 𐤁𐤏𐤃 bead for the sake of HR עַמֵּ֔/נוּ 𐤏𐤌/𐤍𐤅 amenu our people HNcmsc/Sp1cp וּ/בְעַ֖ד 𐤅/𐤁𐤏𐤃 uvead and for the sake of HC/R עָרֵ֣י 𐤏𐤓𐤉 arey cities HNcfpc אֱלֹהֵ֑י/נוּ 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉/𐤍𐤅 eloheynu Mulimu (Lozi) of our God HNcmpc/Sp1cp וַֽ/יהוָ֔ה 𐤅/𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 vayhvah Nyambe (Lozi) and-YHWH HC/Np יַעֲשֶׂ֥ה 𐤉𐤏𐤔𐤄 yaaseh may do HVqi3ms הַ/טּ֖וֹב 𐤄/𐤈𐤅𐤁 hatov what is good HTd/Aamsa בְּ/עֵינָֽי/ו 𐤁/𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉/𐤅 beeynayv in his eyes HR/Ncbdc/Sp3ms

and drew near Joab and the people who were with him to battle against Aram and they fled from before him
