1 Chronicles 5
1 Chronicles 5 records the descendants of Reuben, Gad, and half-Manasseh, noting that Reuben lost his birthright due to defiling his father's couch, with the double portion going to Joseph instead.[1][5] The chapter describes how these three tribes, dwelling east of the Jordan, achieved a great military victory against the Hagrites by crying out to God and trusting in Him, taking significant spoils including 50,000 camels, 250,000 sheep, and 100,000 captives.[1][2] However, the chapter concludes with their exile by the Assyrian kings Pul and Tilgath-pilneser due to their unfaithfulness to the God of their fathers and their prostitution after the gods of the surrounding peoples.[1][2]
